Baltic Yachts 60 Ops 5

The idea of optimising performance racing or cruising is at the base of this project which has been studied in conjunction with the owner and the crew. The fundamental factor is being able to use this type of vessel in line with IMS regulations. According to R.Vrolijk, this craft represents another challenge, as this 60-feet one-off wants to participate in races with both IMS and IRC regulations. This boat too will strongly feature the high quality of the Finnish boatyard, which will guarantee the necessary light weight in competition. It represents another stage in the evolution of famous craft such as “Innovision”, “Banco Espiritu Santo”, “Bribon 2004”. The hull has a high length/beam ratio, for low resistance when sailing close hauled, without flattening too much at the sides, as happens on new IMS racing craft. Average displacement in IMS trim, with some 17000 kg will guarantee optimum, comfortable sailing, close hauled. The hull has a long bow to be able to exploit its maximum waterline length. The sail plan is slightly fractional and this layout, with a jib at 110%, will make the boat extremely competitive in races, both with IMS and IRC regulations. The idea of using angled spreaders without backstay will further improve sailing close hauled. The sail surface is large and suitable for the light wind that is typical of the Mediterranean. The interiors are comfortable for cruising but the use of high-tech materials makes this a lightweight and therefore, competitive vessel. The boom and mast are in carbon; the rudder bar is by Navtec as are the hydraulics. The 30 kg Claw anchor is made by Lewmar, while the main and secondary winches are made by Harken.
